When Marla Kerr, RN, was named the clinical program director for Advanced Wound Center at Hillcrest Hospital Pryor in December 2021, she brought a familiar background to the position.
“I had spent the past 20 years in the dialysis industry,” Kerr said. “And I fell in love serving people with chronic illnesses. We see a lot of people with chronic illness here in the wound care center as well. They kind of go hand in hand.”
Kerr also brings a local familiarity with her. Born and raised in Pryor, she completed nursing school at nearby Rogers State University. Remaining close to her roots has been important for her.
“This is where my heart is,” she said. “Being from a small community, you really get to know the same people with those chronic illnesses.”
The Advanced Wound Center at Hillcrest Pryor offers state-of-the-art treatment and protocols to treat chronic wounds including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, negative pressure therapies, bioengineered tissues and biosynthetics. Patients may also have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials and multi-center studies.
Kerr said the wound center fills a tremendous need in the community and surrounding area and that educating the public about the center’s capabilities is one of her top priorities.
“My main goal is to get out in the community and reach that population of people that are in need of our services, but they don’t know how to get an appointment here,” Kerr said.
